Learning is the goal.
Performance is the evidence.
We get into trouble when we treat them like the same thing. When a learner starts struggling, figuring out why is the hard part. Unflinch helps health professions programs look beyond the score and build a response around what the learner actually needs.
We may have confused the thing we can easily measure with the thing we actually care about. And learners have organized themselves around that confusion.
Better questions. More useful interventions.
Struggling learners rarely arrive with a single, tidy explanation. We work with programs to understand the barriers, design a plan that fits, and evaluate whether the plan is helping.
Learner remediation
Program-partnered support for learners who are having difficulty. We examine the learning process, identify specific barriers, build an individualized plan, and work directly with the learner to make progress visible.
Faculty & program consultation
An outside perspective on difficult cases and remediation processes. We help faculty make sense of performance patterns, choose targeted responses, and create a more consistent approach to supporting learners.
Workshops & speaking
Practical conversations about challenge engagement, failure, feedback, and the gap between learning and performance. Grounded in learning science and built for the realities of health professions education.
Start with understanding.
We don't begin with a generic study plan. We work backward from the performance concern, look for the bottleneck, and change course when the evidence tells us to.
Understand
Review performance, learning habits, expectations, and context.
Plan
Identify the likely barriers and choose a targeted response.
Work
Support the learner and collaborate with faculty through the process.
Reassess
Look for meaningful progress and adjust what isn't working.
Clinician. Educator. Researcher.
Built from the work.
I've spent years in clinical medicine and health professions education, teaching people to navigate difficult material, uncertain situations, and high-stakes decisions. I've also spent a lot of time with learners who are doing everything they've been told to do and still aren't getting where they need to go.
My doctoral research examined how mindset, achievement goals, and fear of failure relate to the ways PA students engage with challenges. Unflinch brings that research perspective together with years of hands-on teaching and learner support. The goal is straightforward: understand the problem before deciding how to address it.
What are you seeing?
A learner who's stuck? A remediation process that isn't getting traction? Faculty who could use a second set of eyes? Tell me what's happening. We'll see whether Unflinch can help.
